Haul || Spring 2014 Fashion

I've done a bit of shopping lately - just trying to update my wardrobe for spring/summer. Nothing over the top but items that caught my eye and will incorporate into my wardrobe well.

The pants are from H&M for $17.95 that are stretchy and have a zipper on the side. I have a couple conferences coming up and I hate wearing boring clothes during these. I always try to inject some fun into my outfits while still looking professional and put together. I really like the pattern of these pants and the fit is very nice - a bit of a higher waist, fitted through the thigh and the hem is just above my ankles. These will be great with a plain or coloured shirt with a black blazer over top and then paired with flats or classic pumps.

The dress is also from H&M for $14.95 - a great fit and flare shape which is one of my favourites. I love the mix of patterns on this dress and the way they are arranged is very flattering. The hem falls just above my knees which means I could also throw a blazer over top of this to dress it up a bit.

The jumpsuit is definitely the riskiest choice I have made fashion-wise for awhile. I found it at Forever 21 for $27.80. I am only 5'3" so jumpsuits never work for me - they are always too long and the proportions are off. This one actually fit really well - the elastic hits right at my waist and the legs end right at my ankles plus there are large enough straps so I can wear a bra. It can be easily dressed up with heels and silver jewellery or dressed down with strappy sandals/gladiators.

Lastly, if you saw my Wishlist post several days ago, you'll know I was humming and ha-ing about what shoes I should buy for spring. I decided on the Just Fab Zarah as I was able to get them for $19.95 as it was my first purchase as a "VIP" (now to remember to skip next month's payment...). I received them yesterday and my initial thoughts are that they are worth the $20 but probably not the $50 they normally retail for. I actually found the quality of the shoe pretty poor for the price (I'll have a more detailed post about this soon) and they smelt SO BAD of chemicals/plastics/fake leather. Not the most comfortable shoes on the planet but they are a really nice style.

What have you recently picked up for Spring and Summer? Have you tried the jumpsuit or romper trend before?

Stylish Saturday || Coachella Outfit Ideas

Music Festival Outfit Idea

As I sit here watching the Outkast set from Coachella last night, I think to myself - what would I wear if I was at Coachella? I put together these two outfits - one more boho inspired and one more glamorous.

The boho casual outfit features a pair of distressed burgundy shorts with a lace crop top as the base. Top it off with a light kimono in a pastel floral print with fringe - perfect for nighttime when it cools down a bit. Some neutral booties with a thick heel (so you don't aerate the grass there), a leather crossbody bag, interesting sunglasses and long arrowhead earrings finish the look. For beauty, I would keep it simple with a BB cream, cream peach coloured blush, minimal eye makeup, nude lips and waterproof mascara.

The more glamorous look is something I would wear on any summer day. A maxi floral skirt with a basic, but interesting, crop top with detailed gladiator sandals. Crossbody bags are essential for concerts so your hands are free but can still store your camera, phone and beauty essentials. A floppy hat and cool sunglasses protect you from the sun and minimal jewellery complete the look. For beauty, light foundation, bronzer on the cheeks, a simple winged eyeliner, peachy-pink glossy lips and waterproof mascara.

What would you wear to a music festival? Which music festival are you dying to go see? (Mine are Coachella and Rock the Bells)

Wishlist || Spring 2014 Shoes

I feel like I need to update my shoe collection - pronto! Just in time for spring, a heeled sandal is a great addition. I'm loving the look of the laced up shoe/bootie as well as the simplistic ankle strap heel. I feel like both are great options that will be staples in my shoe wardrobe and go with a ton of different looks. All of these shoes either come from Just Fab, Aldo or Spring.

I'm hoping you all can help me narrow down my selection a bit so I've included links to all of these shoes below! Let me know which pair I should purchase in the comments!

Luxe Box || Spring 2014

A little delayed but I received my Spring Luxe Box a couple week ago and I have to say I was pretty underwhelmed by it. I've actually put my membership on hold so I'll be skipping the Summer box and reactivating it before the Fall box. This season I received 4 products from 2 brands - not a lot of variety.

Fekkai Brilliant Glossing Shampoo and ConditionerLet the radiant ritual begin with the luscious, luster-enhancing lather of Brilliant Glossing Shampoo, Fekkai's iconic shine shampoo. Its translucent formula cleanses hair with luster enhancing lather. Show hair the way to shine daily with Brilliant Glossing Conditioner, Fekkai's richly rewarding iconic shine conditioner. Its soft crème formula bathes hair in brilliantly lustrous radiance.

Great travel size shampoo and conditioner! I've tried Fekkai products before and certainly haven't been wowed by them. Hopefully this duo does the trick.

L'Occitane Pivoine Flora Eau de Toilette The Paeonia Eau de Toilette captures the subtle aura of the peony flower, in a generous perfume marked with green freshness.
Contains a peony extract from the south of France. Top Notes: Bergamot, Grapefruit, Green notes; Heart Notes: Peony, Rose; Base Notes: Sandalwood, White Musk

A great smelling, floral spring perfume. If you don't like floral scents, stay clear of this one though. I love peonies (definitely my favourite flower) and this was my favourite product in this Luxe Box. The packaging is quite cute as well!

Jane's Pick Handmade Bar Soap in KindBlended with delicate Vanilla pure essential oils with sweet citrusy essential oils from tangerine and orange will give you hints of exotic and sweet scent, but it will also soothes you from Vanilla scent. This completely natural soap is great for calming you down and giving you much needed relief from life’s everyday pressures for any normal skin type.

I do like discovering new brands - this one is a Californian based company that handmakes all the soap in an eco-friendly way and with all natural products. I'm not a huge soap using person, I prefer body wash but this will be a great treat on a pampering day.

Teez Paradise Perfect Lipgloss in Sheer Gold Get ready for your close up with La Isla Chique’s Paradise Perfect Lipgloss. Its volumizing effect gives your lips a perfectly pouty look while simultaneously revitalizing the skin.

Another new brand (which I got two products from) to try out. This clear gloss has gold shimmer throughout and isn't overly sticky. I didn't find it all that "revitalizing" but it does look great over lip colours and makes your lips look pouty.

Teeez Head Over Heels Nail Lacquer in Cadmium Rush - I couldn't find this product on the Teeez website and I wasn't all that excited to see another Teeez product in the box. This is a dark coral cream nail polish. Application was pretty easy, self-levelled well and it took 2 coats for the swatch below. Not really a colour I can see myself wearing.

Aveeno Daily Moisturizing LotionThis nourishing lotion contains ACTIVE NATURALS® Colloidal Oatmeal blended with rich emollients to moisturize your skin for a full 24 hours. It is clinically proven to improve the health of skin in 1 day with significant improvement in 2 weeks. Formulated to help prevent and protect dry skin, it leaves skin feeling soft, smooth and naturally healthy-looking. It is gentle enough for everyday use, fragrance free, nongreasy, and noncomedogenic.

Even though I was upset about seeing two products from two different brands, I was most upset with this product. First off, it is a travel size of a drugstore brand (not very "luxe"). Second, I stay away from all products with oats in them due to being gluten intolerant (oats are typically processed on the same surfaces as flours are and cross-contamination can occur). Better to be safe than sorry. Hope one of my friends will take this off my hands.

Well you can probably tell that I wasn't overly pleased or excited with the products I received. It definitely helped me make the decision about putting my membership on hold.

Were you happy with your Luxe Box?

Favourite Five and a Fail || March 2014

Another month has flown by and here are my five favourite products of the month. Plus a product that I like the results of but is a fail in the packaging department.

Maybelline Color Elixir in Raspberry Rhapsody - One of my many purchases in Atlanta. I already owned Signature Scarlet but really wanted to get an 'orchid' coloured gloss. Great texture, feels great on the lips, moisturizing, non-sticky. Good pigmentation for a gloss as well.

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush - Yet another purchase from Atlanta (sensing a trend?). Was so excited to get my hands on this brush. I love how my foundation applies with this brush - even better than their buffing brush.

Covergirl Lip Perfection Jumbo Gloss Balm - I have two of these (Ruby Twist and Watermelon Twist) and have been reaching for them a lot. A moisturizing lip product with a great wash of colour. Lasts for a decent amount of time before reapplication.

Maybelline Colossal Volum' Express Cat Eyes - I fell in love with this mascara ages ago but have wearing The Rocket recently. Finished off a tube of The Rocket so I figured I'd go back to this one for a bit. I use the waterproof version as my lashes get weighed down by product very easily and waterproof formulas hold curl so much better. Gives a great natural-ish look (you can obviously tell I'm wearing mascara haha) and lasts all day without smudging or flaking.

Real Techniques Blush Brush - Yes, one more Atlanta purchase. So incredibly pleased with this brush. Gives a gorgeous wash of colour on the cheeks without loading on too much product. Beautiful, natural flush can be achieved as well as a stronger cheek.

L'Oreal Gentle Makeup Remover - Okay, this is my fail of the month. Not because it fails at removing makeup (it does so actually very easily, even waterproof mascara). Not because it leaves an oily film (it doesn't). But because I absolutely hate the packaging. I find it very difficult to not spill some when putting some on a cotton round. It has a small-ish hole at the top for the product to come out of whereas I would prefer a screwtop cap or a flip cap that is much smaller. I found this product also kind of expensive for a "drugstore" brand - I'm pretty sure it was $12.99/14.99 at Shoppers.

Mani Monday || Jeweled Pastel

Apologies again for the lack of posting! With my trip to Atlanta (can't wait to share my haul with you guys!) and a crazy couple weeks of school, blogging has unfortunately taken a backseat. I'll be posting periodically the next couple of weeks then I'll be back in full force!

I wanted something quick but springy for my nails this week. So why not lilac and glitter? This really does scream SPRING!

What colours do you like to wear when spring is on it's way? Let me know in the comments!

Hi everyone!

I have to apologize for my lack of posts the last couple of weeks. As you all probably know I am currently a PhD student so that has been taking up a lot of extra time recently. I was away last week for a conference and picked up a lot of goodies from Ulta so watch out for posts about those next week.

I have reached the 100 followers mark - woohoo! So I will be running a giveaway very, very soon.

What kinds of posts would you like to see upon my return? Please let me know in the comments!

Again, I apologize and can't wait to get back to the consistent posting.

Wish List || Atlanta Edition

My Spending Ban is coming to an end and I'm headed to Atlanta which means some shopping will be taking place! I've summarized some of the things on my shopping list for Ulta/Sephora below!

1) NYX Butter Gloss - While we have NYX here in Canada I can never find these - will most likely get a nude-pink colour.
2) Revlon Matte Balm - We have these in Canada but I'm wondering how much cheaper they are in the States - bright colours will be purchased!
3) Anastasia Brow Pomade - I've seen these be mentioned here and there and want to look at the colours available and if I would like it or not.
4) Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick - Another take a look and see product - most likely will buy a nude-pink shade (like Native).
5) Real Techniques Brushes - Any and all brushes I find will become mine. Definitely will be my biggest purchase at Ulta.
6) L'Oreal Lumi Foundation - This stuff is crazy expensive in Canada ($18.99 at Shoppers) and I want to see how cheap it is in the States.
7) Real Techniques Complexion Sponge - Why not try a dupe for the Beauty Blender?
8) Anastasia Brow Gel - I love this stuff and is $7 cheaper in the States. Add that with the 6% taxes in Georgia and even with the so-so dollar, it's still a better deal over there.
9) Neutrogena Healthy Skin Foundation - Holy grail product that's not available in Canada. AKA I'm buying like 3 bottles of this stuff!
10) Kardashian Beauty Products - Okay, I admit it - I'm a sucker for the Kardashians. I really want to try out some of their products, especially the Joystick lip product.
11) Batiste Hint of Colour Dry Shampoo - I can never find this in the stores so have to hope I can find it at Ulta.
12) NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream - Another NYX product I just can't find. Will most likely get a nude-pink colour and a brighter colour as I really like the look of matte lip products.
13) L'Oreal True Match Concealer Stick - I'm pretty sure this is cheaper in the States and want to get a deeper colour of some form of concealer stick to do some contouring.
14) Healthy Sexy Hair Soy Renewal Beach Spray - Spring is coming and so is texturized/wavy hair. Favourite beach spray I have ever tried.

Other things on my wishlist that aren't shown: a Chanel nail polish, L'Oreal's new skincare line, spring clothes, costume jewellry.

I most likely won't be buying all of these things but will definitely keep my eye out for all of them. Watch out for haul posts during my trip if I have time but most certainly after I'm back from Hotlanta!

What's on your wishlist right now? Have you tried any of these products I want? Let me know your thoughts on them - maybe you can save me some money or make them move up the priority list!

Spending Ban Update || 6 Weeks

I have to apologize for the lack of posting this week - school has been quite hectic this week with analyzing samples and preparing for my trip next week. Good thing is that has really curbed my chances of spending this week.

It's nearing the end of this Spending Ban and I am very happy with how it went. In the past 2 weeks, I've only spent money on food basically (I went to the movies one night). Today though I had to go run errands for my trip to Atlanta on Tuesday and needed to buy some things - dry shampoo (I was out of the spray kind which is much better for travelling), my beloved eyebrow pencil (finished it on Friday), a new stick of concealer (I'm scraping it out now and didn't want to forget to buy it in the States), shoe protectant spray (gotta protect my new Kate Spades), travel baby wipes (so much cheaper than makeup wipes) and eye makeup remover (I'm getting near the end of mine and figured I was in the store). So I guess I didn't need that makeup remover but oh well! I'll certainly use it!

Overall, I really do think that avoiding stores is the easiest way to have a successful spending ban. Also keeping yourself busy with other things helps a lot. Oh! And make sure you tell people that you are on the spending ban - it keeps you accountable!

Now what can you do with all that money you saved? Whenever I'm on a spending ban and I almost buy something in a store or online, I always take the money I would have spent and put either towards a credit card/tuition or in a savings account. This way you can see all your savings build up during the ban which can really help you stick to it.

So my ban ends on Tuesday but once I'm back from my trip I will be going on another spending ban (maybe a bit more laid back as I do need some newer pieces of clothes for the spring - but definitely no makeup products). How long should my new spending ban go for? (I'm thinking another 6 weeks one but maybe a bit longer)

How is your spending ban going? Did my chronicles inspire you? Make sure to let me know - that way I know my suffering wasn't just for me!

Mani Monday || Metallic Leopard

A relatively easy but striking nail design this week - leopard print with metallics. I hadn't done a leopard print design in awhile and saw a few on Instagram using a metallic polish. I love how the colour combo came out with the neutral pink shade, Chanel Kaleidoscope and the dark burgundy for the detail. To recreate, paint nails with neutral shade then randomly add irregular shapes with the metallic. Using a relatively large dotting tool take the darker colour and dot/drag colour around metallic blobs. Add an accent nail in the same metallic colour to tie everything together.

Perfect for spring which is right around the corner! What do you think of this design? What other colour combos do you think would look good?
